Did you know that a blogger is a blessed human being? Did you know that we have lots of privileges that millions of people do not live with? Did you also know that we have influence, without really realizing it?
the other day, i was watching Dr. Tareq Al Suwaidan’s Show “3allamatny Al 7aya 2″.. the episode was about Media, sources of media and how messages can be easily delivered across the nations with a click of a mouse.
The internet is one of the rising sources for spreading knowledge/information/news/trends & even rumors across the globe, and a lot of times while searching for something online, we end up on different blogs.
All this brought me to thinking, whats the purpose of having this blog? I remember back in 2001, i came across the very first Emirati blogs which were Little Designer, Bnafsaj, Dreamer7, e3ashig and later on I came across banoota as well. I remember thinking to myself, wouldn’t it be great to have a tiny piece of this huge world wide web all for yourself? a place where you can literally fill in with all the things that come across your mind, and normally, no one you know personally would really bother to hear you blabber about? I remember getting excited about the thought of having my own “piece” and in no time, somewhere in 2001 i had my first ever blog online (developed using FrontPage, MS Paint, Dynamic drive & lotsa ugly animated GIFS) i wish i had a screen shot at least to give you a good laugh on it :P. I’m trying to remember the very first post i uploaded but fortunately, i can’t, because I’m sure it was as silly as can ever be coming from a 14 year old teenager. However, i do remember that the background of my blog was of a black sky full of twinkling stars (yes they were animated too), if you really want to know how my cool blog looked like, check out this link, it was pretty much the same! lol
Anyways, so i started a blog for one thing, I wanted to speak my mind, i pretty much did not have a goal or a specific topic of interest, i wanted to have the freedom of speaking of whatever, whenever, while remaining anonymous (not like i said anything big anyways lol). Time has passed, and today my blog is 9+ years old… And if God wanted my blog to live for the rest of my life, i do not want it to remain as it started, that is, without a solid goal or purpose.
Today, i am rearranging my thoughts. I see traffic moving in and out of my humble blog, and yet, i do not see myself utilizing my full potential to provide a reliable knowledge base (no matter how humble) for the rest of the world. With you being a dear reader, i do not want you to navigate away from this page without having you gaining something in return, something positive Enshallah.
Some find the idea of a personal blog that mainly consists of personal thoughts, ramblings and adventures are usually an interest for “curious people” who normally like to know about other people’s lives, But personally, i believe that at the end of the day, it IS a personal blog, and if it had no sense of the author’s own personality, then what would make it any different from other blogs? what would make it Dxbgirl’s blog? or Miracle‘s blog? or AH‘s blog?
And so, to cut this long story short, I ask you;
1- What is it that you want to read/see in this blog? with this being a Muslim/Arabic/Female blog?
2- What makes you want to come back to this blog? or any other blog you stumble upon on the internet?
3- If you would kindly take the time to critisize this blog, listing down the good & bad, I’d be very appreciative.
4- If you think the star-background website is cool, I’ll re-create the look for 2011

Thanks for the link. I must say, blogging in this part of the world hasn’t caught up as it does elsewhere. However, what I would like to achieve as a blogger is start this community; bring like-minded people together to share information and have intellectual discussions abotu their areas of expertees. Like Tine talks about psychology because that’s her field, I rant about engineering cz that’s mine. And this is what makes blogs unique; the personality behidn it. Otherwise, everybody woudl just b talking about the news and the weathers, and blogs won’t be unique. I love your current design, dxb-girl, so dont change it please. I also agree with na3oom that you need to update the blog more regularly.
To Tine, even I thought about putting translations for arabic posts – thanks for the tip.
Otherwise, keep up the good job. i’d also like you to write reviews on book you’ve read, stuff you’ve watched…since i’m a reader, i like to see who else reads what and wht they think about them…take care
Hahaha Tine!!! My jaw dropped when I saw ur loooong comment! Lol I really appreciate you taking the time. And u have good point as for being a student who blogs her life n major, that’s actually the point, that it’s revolved around u but in a way that people similar to you also benifit. Your 100% right about the translation bit, I’ve been thinking lately about the none Arabic readers, I will sure start translating as nest as I can enshalla :).. I’ll check out ur old blog, let’s see who rocked more :p haha thanks again dear Tine.
P.s I still like you :p lol
This is interesting… I have thought of the same thing before. Like maybe I should blog about something SENSIBLE rather than my non-sense school life. lol. but I realized by sharing my life experiences, people will be able to know how it is like to be a psychology student. i mean because ever since my freshman year, i have heard of negative comments like students in my course are stupid blah blah blah… so yeah. so by sharing my thoughts and experiences as psychology major, i hope people are getting the thought that it is not easy as they think. i think sharing your insights about personal matters or things related to you is okay…
about your questions though..
1- What is it that you want to read/see in this blog? with this being a Muslim/Arabic/Female blog?
-of course i wanna learn more about your culture…how is it like being an arab? i wanna know if you guys party just like us, if you have alternative to wines etc. you know… those things that we THINK you do not do. i wanna know something about your religion too. I think Islam is a good religion. my dad has told me lots of things to convince me it is better than Christianity. i know it just needs to be explain to non-muslims more in order for us to understand misconceptions. and i also hope posts in arabic will be translated in english (well if you have time.. :p) so your readers will be able to understand and not just criticize Islam without having any basis.
2- What makes you want to come back to this blog? or any other blog you stumble upon on the internet?
- it is the content itself… like what the bloggers put up, their thoughts and stand on specific things. i dont usually comment on posts which do not attract my attention. sometimes i also visit a blog AGAIN to know the person more. i think through his/her blog, the personality and characteristics show somehow.
3- If you would kindly take the time to critisize this blog, listing down the good & bad, I’d be very appreciative.
- i hope you will still like me after listing down some criticisms here. promise i’ll be good… or else i know you’ll kick my ass. lol
ummm… the contents are okay with me. your portfolio rocks and made me wish i have one too. :p i guess the only thing i consider negative (well not really) is what i have mentioned above. like the posts in arabic. dont get me wrong… i know there are things better express in our own language but im just hoping you could at least give your readers an idea what it is you are talking about. maybe a brief summary will do….? well it’s still upto you. i know translating is a bit hard and time consuming but i would certainly appreciate it if you do.
don’t worry though… i will still visit your blog even though there are arabic contents on your post. i love it here. :p
4- If you think the star-background website is cool, I’ll re-create the look for 2011
- please do. haha. i think i have used that background when i was in elementary also. when we were told to do our own offline webpage. lol. i wanted to look at your old blog if it’s just like mine. hahaha but yeah… no hope eh? mine is still up though… you can visit it at http://babygurl.cjb.net :)))
p.s.
(darn i just realized how talkative i am. haha thank God we’re not in front of each other. :p)
i’m soooo sorry for this long comment. i didn’t notice how long it is till i reached question number 3. haha. i enjoyed typing and sharing what i think. i hope you didnt get bored of reading it.
p.p.s.
i think you’re really a cool arab girl.
