Lomography, my first successful shots

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

I finally processed two films from my dust-gathering lomo cameras, the Fish Eye 2 and the Super Sampler (ehem, which is the latest edition that i couldn’t resist).. I’m glad the majority of the shots were actually  VISIBLE, unlike the last rolls, where i shot 90% of the photos with lens cap ON the lens >_<’. Here are some of the shots.

My iPhone Apps – Part 4

Friday, July 9th, 2010

I’ve promised a post about bloggers, but haven’t had the time to prepare it yet. However, if you’re interested in iPhone Apps or want a reason to get yourself an iPhone, here’s the 4th part of the latest  Apps I’m liking. If interested, refer back to part 1, 2 and 3.

32) WhatsApp

I’m sure most of you who use Blackberrys or iPhones have already heard about this messaging App. Who said you need a blackberry to be in touch 24 hours?  this app works between iPhone to iPhone and iPhone to Blackberry. Why is it better than the regular Blackberry messenger? Well, you can broadcast photos, audio notes, contacts and share your location. Photos are not attached in links, this is something very stupid in blackberry phones :P. Also, you can assign a display picture for each person on your contact list which is a plus on the iPhone version. I have to be honest though, I’m glad i have just a few family members on it, i’m not very fond of chatting. check out their website for screen shots.

33) Grand Cinemas

You may have seen a very silly Ad in Grand cinemas about this app, it can be useful, though it crashes a lot. You can book e-tickets through the app as well.

34) iWeather Complete

This is a very detailed weather app. It gives a forecast for 9 days as well as hours within the same day. It shows the humidity and dew point level and more. Of course you’re able to bookmark more than one country/city.

35) IKEA UK

I don’t know about you, but i have a bond with IKEA. I can walk around their store all day long and not get sick of it. This App is something quite similar to their E-catalog. It provides the same functionality of browsing the catalog, zooming in and out, going through their index and so on. This is the UK version, so the prices are all in UK Pounds, but the products are almost similar in all regions.

36) Qamar Deen

This is an App the reminds me of  my dear Miracle. She always has a scheduale made for the day to monitor what progress she’s making in particular things such as Reading, prayers and so on. Using this app you are able to track your prayers, whether you’ve prayed on time, late or missed a prayer during the day. It also monitors your daily Quran reading by also tracking how many Ayahs you’ve read. There are two more options of monitoring your Sadaqa (charity) which is categorized in Money, food, effort, clothes, smile and others. Finally, you can also record your fasting whether its Fareedha, Sunnah, Qadha2, Kaffara and so on. The App goes asfar as allowing you to choose your gender to customize it more, and it also links to any Quran apps you have on your phone such as iQuran and Quran Reader, where it shifts you to the app to continue your daily Quran read. It’s a free App and it’s a must have for every Muslim.

37) حصن المسلم

Remember those tiny orange booklets of Hosn Al Muslim? I always tend to loose them or forget them in different hand bags. This is an electronic version of the book with all its chapters, you can find almost any Do3aa or Thikr you may need in your life. I love this app

38)  iAzkar

Similar to the previous app but this one is specialized in Athkar al Sabah and Athkar Al Masa2. it also contains Prayer Thikr and Random atkar.

NEWSPAPERS

39) The National

I like this newspaper, I have to admit that i enjoy admiring it’s layout and design more than its content lol. My favorite sections are the Arts and Life. the content it updated daily and you are able to increase/ decrease font size and also search the paper.

40) Al Ittihad

Another newspaper app for the local newspaper Al Ittihad. The App is very organized , convenient and easy to use.

41) Al Bayan

I left Al Bayan for last for even though i never read this newspaper, it holds a special place in my heart. The App has been improved since the first release. Way to go Al Bayan folks! though you must add the supplements too such as The National newspaper is doing.

Because I simply love it

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Honestly, i’m a novice when it comes to photography, although i may enjoy collecting the tools, but when it comes to taking the actual photos, I’m pretty much a point and shoot person… i have these times when i go on searching online for photography tutorials & articles or checkout videos and books and get all excited about IMPROVING, but at the end of the day, i come back down to reality & remain pretty much a beginner. so for 2010, i have a resolution of studying digital & film photography, i really should at least know what Aperture exactly means, especially when I’m holding a camera as big as my head & someone asks me that hehe.

so talking about being no more than a humble collector of cameras, checkout these OH-MY-GOD-SO-ADORABLE minox classic digital cameras!

minox1

minox2

they’re like the tiniest & cutest camera’s i have come across so far. i mean look at the Rolleiflex MiniDigi! no no don’t look at the pix, go to Sharaf DG and touch this beauty! yes it’s digital, with a 2x zoom, and it’s 5 mega pixel.. & guess where the LCD screen is ?…. yup it’s inside that top lid, so you actually use it the same way the vintage model was used… i fell in love with this once i set eyes on it, it’s worth 699 AED at sharaf DG…. only 1 thought stopped me from grabbing it… ehem… remember the lomo craze i went through? lets just say I’m feeling guilty for not trying them out properly yet, &… well, i kinda feared mum would end up with a soar throat for obvious reasons.. don’t tell her this, but in my next outing, I AM GETTING THIS!!! I’m so scared it runs out!! I’m in a faja3 mode…

There’s also this model, the MINOX DCC 5.1.. this one is no less adorable! it’s 4x zoom… i can imagine it tucked in my purse somewhere & becoming really handy ! (NOT, it just looks good!!).. i got this one for a dear friend who, unlike me, knows her way in photography.

minox3

Remember the Diana F+ lomo camera that i mentioned in here? well .. this camera uses a 120 mm film, which i couldn’t find around here yet… i researched a bit to find a way around it and came across this of many tutorials that shows how you can easily modify the camera to hold the regular 35 mm film

Here’s my take on this, not bad? i shouldn’t have used white paper though, actually, i shouldn’t have opened that jacket to take the pix

lomo1

lomo2

cover the outer side of the red window properly

lomo5

the inside too

lomo4

add foam or any similar material to center the film, above and below it

lomo3

and finally cover the film with another piece of foam to stabilize it, and that’s it, i can use regular 35mm film now until i find the 120 in Dubai
